There has been a change to the format for this year's event at Wentworth with the field now boosted from 12 to 16 runners, which means that that everyone has to play on all four days. In the past the top four seeds had the massive advantage of not playing on the Thursday, before entering the fray 'rested' on Friday. Despite this, defending champion Ernie Els still looks to have a cracking chance of making it a hat-trick of wins in this event, and recording his sixth victory overall. Els' domination is based around the fact that this is very much a 'home' fixture for him – he has a house on the course – while his love of the cut and thrust of match play is always worth a couple of holes against his opponents. He also comes here on the back of some very good form. After winning the Amex in Ireland, he then cruised to a tied 7th place in the Dunhill Links last week, where he was particularly impressive off the tee with a new driver in his bag. What's more, he has a cracking draw with his main rival in the betting, Vijay Singh, in the opposite half. Even at the relatively short price of 2/1 it is very hard to make a case against him this week. Singh's Wentworth record is not nearly as impressive as Els', both in match and strokeplay, while he could face a formidable rival in Lee Westwood at the semi final stage. The Englishman appears to be back to near his very best with regular high finishes in recent weeks, and at 12/1 he is worthy of each way support as half the odds are paid if he reaches the final. Should he meet Els in the final, he will take encouragement from his record against the 'Big Easy'. The only twice they have met in the tournament, Westwood has won on both occasions – that's 50% of Els' defeats in this event!

Newmarket Champions Day
**********************
Sat Oct 16
The highlight of Saturday's Champions Day card is undoubtedly the re-match between Azamour and Doyen in the Group One Champion Stakes. The race gives Doyen the chance to redeem himself after flopping in the Irish Champion Stakes behind Azamour last time out. That run was too bad to be true, and it is worth remembering that he had looked a truly top-class performer after his impressive victory in the King George back in July. His trainer Saeed Bin Surror has his team in brilliant shape (four wins on Monday), while the horse has since been putting in some sparkling displays on the home gallops. Jockey Frankie Dettori has chosen him in front of stablemate Refuse To Bend (who has the form to match the best of these), and the hint should be taken.

bet365 Champion Stakes prices... Azamour 11/4, Doyen 7/2, Lucky Story 5/1, Mister Monet 11/2, Refuse To Bend, Haafhd 10/1, others on bet365 website.

The big betting race on the card is the Tote Cesarewitch, a 36-runner handicap over 2 ¼ miles – shouldn't be too difficult to solve then! Their has been a considerable ante-post gamble on the Irish runner – Orpington – but that looks set to go astray as he is now a doubtful runner. Jumpers have an excellent record in the race, with six of the last eight winners having had decent hurdle form, and the most likely candidate from that sphere appears to be Mr Ed. The six-year-old has been a revelation this year, winning five races (four hurdles, one flat), and giving the impression that he will relish this marathon trip. He could well go off favourite on the day, but at a bigger price a chance is taken with It's The Limit trained by Amanda Perrett, whose father Guy Harwood had an excellent with staying horses, winning this race ten years ago with Captains Guest. It's The Limit has been slow to mature (only 9 races in his life), but has always given the impression that he was a high-class stayer in the making (finished well over two miles last time out), and looks set to improve again over this trip.

bet365 Cesarewitch prices... Orpington 7/1, Escayola, Mr Ed 8/1, No Refuge 9/1, Tungsten Strike, Distant Prospect, Tempsford, It's The Limit 12/1, others on bet365 website.

Birmingham v Man Utd: Live betting – Sa Oct 16 – 12.45 BST ko
Charlton v Newcastle: Live betting - Su Oct 17 – 16.05 BST ko (SS1)
Manchester City's problems look set to get worse after the visit of Chelsea on Saturday. In all competitions this season, Chelsea have played ten, won eight, drawn two, and their case for beating Keagan's side is undeniable. The question is whether they can defy their growing reputation as 1-0 wonders – 6/1 for a repeat here at bet365. In Saturday's other live game, Manchester United are fancied to get their Premiership challenge back on track with a win away at Birmingham. The Blues haven't beaten the Red Devils at St Andrews for over a quarter of a century, and with only one win from eight Premiership fixtures this season, cannot be considered in the same league as the team that finished tenth last season. If United are to have any hope of closing the gap on the top two they must take the three points here, and will be looking to Wayne Rooney to turn it on – 9/2 to score the first goal on Saturday. On Sunday, it is the turn of two out-of-sorts outfits to try and turn it on for the cameras, but they may have to settle for a share of the spoils. Charlton have not lost at The Valley in eight Premiership games, a run that has seen them collect four wins and four draws. Newcastle are undefeated way from home under their new manager Graeme Souness, and carry enough of a scoring threat to suggest they can collect the point – an 11/5 shot with us.

Super League Grand Final
*********************
Bradford v Leeds: Sa Oct 16 – 18.00 BST ko (SS1) This year's final will be contested by the sides that finished first and second at the end of the regular season, after Leeds impressive 42-10 defeat of Wigan last Friday. This convincing display from the Rhinos was more like the level of play we had become accustomed to seeing before they lost their 100% home record to Bradford a week earlier. Marcus Bai scored his third hat-trick of the season against the Warriors and they will enter the Old Trafford showpiece high in confidence. Bradford are set to be without Leon Pryce for the game, after the Great Britain three-quarter dislocated his shoulder in their 26-12 win over the Rhinos earlier this month. In our outright market we make Leeds favourite at 4/5 to take the title for the first time, with Bradford at Even money to successfully defend. In their first final since 1998 the Rhinos could have the greater hunger and are fancied to get the job done at Old Trafford. Prediction: Leeds @ 4/5 (Outright).

bet365 2-Way Game Betting:
Handicap: Bradford (+2.5) @ 10/11, Leeds (-2.5) @ 10/11, Tie No Bet.
Totals: Over 43.5 Points @ 10/11 (Under 43.5 @ 10/11).

After kick off, join us here at bet365 for live Handicap and Points betting on the game.
