HORSE RACING
totesport Lanzarote Hurdle, Kempton Sat Jan 15 - Channel 4 race
Royal Hector still looks one step ahead of the handicapper, and is fancied to continue his winning ways in Saturday’s feature race at Kempton. Having failed to win in his previous 15 starts, the six-year-old has won all 5 starts since joining Martin Pipe, the latest of which was achieved with more in hand than the official half-length margin. After attracting early
support when our betting opened, his current price of 5/1 still looks excellent value. The main threat could come from Brooklyn’s Gold, who is running off the same mark as when last successful over course and distance last February, and may represent some each way value at 12/1.
totesport Classic Chase, Warwick Sat Jan 15 - Channel 4 race
Warwick’s feature race at the weekend is the ultra competitive Classic Chase, run over a grueling 3m 5f. Our favourite for the race is Grattan Lodge at 4/1, and it’s not difficult to see why. Winner of nine of his last 11 starts over jumps, he appears to possess everything required to win a race of this nature – boundless stamina and a love of soft ground. Like Royal Hector, he only just does enough in his races to win, which means he is still well handicapped off only a 5lb higher mark than his latest win at
Carlisle. At a bigger price (14/1), D’Argent could be interesting back on his favourite track, after showing signs of a return to form last time put at Sandown.
Tip: Try a win double on the two big race favourites this weekend, and an each way double on the two outsiders. The latter pays out a generous 17/1 for the place part of the double alone!
CHANNEL 4 OFFER
Back the winner at 4/1 (or more) in either of the above races (or in any of the 7 races on Channel 4 this weekend) and if it wins, bet365 give you your
winnings and a free bet to the same stake on the next Channel 4 race!
GOLF
Hawaiian Open
Th Jan 13 – 22.00 BST (SS2)
Sa Jan 15 – 0.00 BST (SS2)
Su Jan 16 – 0.00 BST (SS3)
Mo Jan 17 – 0.00 BST (SS2)
After tipping Jonathan Kaye at 125/1 (finished second) in last week’s limited field of 31, things get a little harder for this week’s full field(144) Sony Open from Hawaii. First things first, Els is a good favourite this week, even at 4/1, and should be included in all staking plans. His record here is exceptional (56 under par for 16 rounds), and he looks sureto put up a bold bid to complete a hat-trick of wins in this event. This is in contrast to Vijay Singh, whose record on these tight fairways and small grainy Bermuda greens is modest (never better than 8th in 8 starts). At 8/11, Els can certainly be backed with confidence to finish ahead of his
main rival this week. Both Fred Funk and Jerry Kelly have good records here, and they look excellent match and 2/3 ball material, however, neither appeal as winners, so the main selection goes to Aussie Adam Scott at 20/1.
Adam was a fast finishing fifth in last week’s Mercedes after a slow start, and he could be inspired by the victory there of his compatriot Stuart Appleby. The final pick is based on a hunch that Briny Baird is ready to break through and record his maiden win on Tour, on a course where he has already finished twice in the frame (1/4 odds 1.2.3.4.5.). With betting available in-play throughout the event, the alternative is to watch the action over the first couple of rounds before ‘getting in the game’.
Nigel’s Three Off the Tee: Ernie Els @ 4/1, Adam Scott @ 20/1, Briny Baird @ 50/1.

South Africa v England 4th Test
Th Jan 13 – 8.00 BST (SS2)
Fr Jan 14 – 8.00 BST (SS2)
Sa Jan 15 - 8.00 BST (SS2)
Su Jan 16 - 8.00 BST (SS2)
Mo Jan 17 - 8.00 BST (SS2)
The 4th Test between South Africa and England gets under way in the early hours of Thursday morning, and with showers forecast at the end of the week, the draw has been by far the best backed scenario in recent days (currently 5/4). However, the New Wanderers ground is traditionally seen as a result wicket (four of the last ten losing teams have gone down by an
innings defeat), and with England’s current injury woes, the best option could a bet on the Proteas at 9/4. This price will look even bigger if Vaughan loses his fourth toss of the series, and England struggle to make any early inroads. Once the match gets under way, you can bet on up to six in-play markets including: Match Winner; Innings Runs; Batsman Runs; Next Man Out; Wicket Method; plus our new Live ‘Over’ betting, when you try to predict the number of runs scored in each over.
FOOTBALL
Liverpool v Man Utd
Sat Jan 15 – 12.30 kick off (SS1)
This looks to be a six-pointer as far as qualification for the Champions League is concerned, and with so much at stake it is not hard to understand why the draw is relatively short at 21/10. United are unbeaten in 11
Premiership games, but failed to put away non-league opposition last weekend, and have drawn as many away games as any team in the top half of
the table. After struggling to break down Exeter, what chances have they against a 5-man red midfield? The Reds have played poorly against inferior opposition this season, but have raised their game for the big home games, beating Arsenal and then being controversially denied against Chelsea. In what is likely to be a low scoring affair, a case can be made for the draw,
but with Real Madrid’s Fernando Morientes expected to make his debut on Saturday, the Merseysiders are worth support at 13/8 to come away with all three points. Once the game kicks off, that’s just the start here at bet365, where you can bet on up to 12 in-play markets to a margin of 107% - which means better prices for you!
Match selection: Liverpool @ 13/8.
PREMIERSHIP ACCUMULATOR OFFER
In other Premiership action, Chelsea face a potential banana skin when they travel to Spurs, however, it is hard to see the Blues dropping any points at the moment. Thanks to the TV schedule Chelsea can get in an early blow to their Premiership rivals, which means that Arsenal could be 10 points adrift by the time they face Bolton at the Reebok (live on Sky Prem Plus).
Despite a string of injuries they should still win, and can be included in our Premiership accumulator this weekend, along with Middlesbrough, who look good for three points against Everton who have won just one of their
last six away games in the Premiership. A £25 bet on Liverpool (13/8), Chelsea (5/6), Middlesbrough (6/5) and Arsenal (4/7) pays out a respectable
£436.74 - which includes our 5% bonus! bet365’s Premiership Accumulator Bonus is available every weekend, and pays out the following:-
4-folds-5% bonus 5-folds-10% bonus
6-folds-20% bonus 7-folds-30% bonus
