Today sees the running of the main event of Royal Ascot, the Gold Cup. With Yeats’ dominance over, Manifest, Age of Aquarius and Ask will be looking to write themselves into Ascot folklore.

The most successful Royal Ascot trainer of all time, Henry Cecil, is going for his sixth Gold Cup. Cecil will be represented by Manifest, the 4/1 favourite. Manifest was a runaway winner of the Yorkshire Cup at York in May over 1m 6f. He’s never raced beyond that distance and the two and a half mile trip at Ascot is arguably the toughest on the flat circuit.

Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore team up with Ask (9/2). Ask won the Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp last time out and should cope with the step up in trip.

Aidan O’Brien has won this race 4 years in-a-row with the now retired superstar Yeats. This year he saddles Age of Aquarius (5/1) who has finished second in his last three outings. Can he go one better and continue his trainer’s fine record in this race or will the legendary Henry Cecil take the honours?
