Will it be another O’Brien 2 classic?
2000 Guineas
The Guineas meeting gets under way today at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course as the top three-year-old colts do battle.
St Nicholas Abbey is the 11/10 favourite for tomorrow’s showpiece at Ladbrokes bookmaker, the Stan James 2000 Guineas. His trainer Aidan O’Brien has a remarkable record in the race, winning 3 out of the last 5 races. The undefeated son of Montjeu made light work of the Racing Post trophy back in October and will take all the beating on Saturday. Second on that day was the Craven Stakes winner Elusive Pimpernel (11/2). He is a course and distance winner and will love the conditions.
Mark Johnston will be represented by the Middle Park Stakes winner Awzaan (10/1). He was undefeated in his four starts last season and his connections are bullish of his chances this time around. Richard Hannon saddles the exciting Canford Cliffs (7/1), who demolished his rivals in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot last year. Can Hannon land another Guineas or will St Nicholas Abbey be too good?
1000 Guineas
Special Duty, winner of the Electrolux Cheveley Park Stakes is the 3/1 favourite for Sunday’s big race. She will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing run at Maisons-Laffitte earlier in the month. Kieren Fallon, winner of this race four times, has chosen Seta (5/1) as his mount, but will be hoping the ground doesn’t remain too fast. Music Show (6/1), who won the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket, will be ridden by Ryan Moore after Fallon decided to ride Seta. Puff looks the value E/W bet at 25/1 if she can repeat the form that saw her capture The Fred Darling Stakes a few weeks ago. Odds featured are from Ladbrokes Bookmaker.
